How to fill it in: "Bid" is the team's total bid, not counting a partner who bid nil. "Took" is every book the team won, including any taken by a nil bidder. If a player bid nil, pick the result in "Nil": made, or failed with how many books the nil bidder took.
How Spades scoring works
- Made the contract: 10 points for every book bid, plus 1 point for each extra book (a bag).
- Set (fell short): minus 10 points for every book bid.
- Nil: +100 if the nil bidder takes no books, −100 if they take any. Books won by a failed nil bidder do not count toward the partner's bid; they count as bags.
- Bags: every time a team collects 10 bags it loses 100 points, and the bag count starts again.
- Winning: the first team to reach the target, usually 500, wins. If both pass it on the same hand, the higher score wins.
Full rules, bidding tips and a worked example are on the Spades rules page.
Example hand
Your team bids 4 + 3 = 7 and takes 8 books: 70 + 1 = 71 points and 1 bag. The other team bids 5, but one of them bid nil and took 1 book; together they took 5 books. Their contract counts only 4 books toward the bid of 5, so they are set: −50 for the bid and −100 for the failed nil, −150 in total, and the nil bidder's book becomes a bag.
Printing a blank sheet
Press "New game", then "Print". The sheet prints without the buttons and with empty lines for 13 hands, enough for most games to 500. Add more hands before printing if your group plays to a higher target.
Questions
Is this Spades scorekeeper free?
Yes. No ads, no account and no download. Your scores are saved only in this browser so a refresh does not lose your game.
Does it handle blind nil?
Not yet. Blind nil is a house rule (usually ±200); if your group uses it, add it by hand in the margin of a printed sheet.
Can I use it on my phone at the table?
Yes. The sheet works on phones; swipe the table sideways on narrow screens.
