How to fill in a Yacht scorecard
- Upper section: add up only the dice showing that number. Three 4s in Fours is 12.
- Upper bonus: if the six upper boxes reach 63 or more, add 35 (American) or 50 (Yatzy). 63 is three of each number.
- Lower section: each box has its own rule, below. If your dice don't fit, you can still use the box for 0.
- Every box once: after 13 turns (15 in Yatzy) the card is full. Add everything; highest total wins.
- Extra Yachts (American): each five of a kind after you scored 50 in the Yacht box is worth +100. Put a tally in the Yacht bonus row.

Questions
What is a good Yacht score?
With American rules, most casual games end between 180 and 250. Our computer's best strategy averages about 242 over 1,000 games, and mathematically perfect play averages about 254.
How does the upper bonus work?
Add the six upper boxes (Ones to Sixes). If the total is 63 or more you get 35 extra points in American rules, or 50 in Yatzy. Three of each number is exactly 63.
What if I roll five of a kind twice?
In American rules, if your Yacht box already holds 50, each extra five of a kind earns a 100-point bonus, and you score the roll in another box (the matching upper box first, if it is open). In Yatzy there is no extra bonus.
Can I put a zero in a box?
Yes. On any turn you may score a box your dice don't fit, for 0. It's often wise to use a hard box like Yacht or Ones for that late in the game.
